SGSA Board Positions 2022 – 2025

Roles & Responsibilities

Secretary & Director of Public Relations

Acting as the spokesperson for the Board, the Secretary & Director of Public Relations is responsible for leading the SGSA Strategic Plan, and collaborating with the rest of Board members in executing the annual goals and objectives in support of the Plan. The Secretary is also responsible for coordinating and setting the agendas for the monthly Board meetings, documenting and archiving minutes and resolutions. Additionally, the Secretary leads the efforts and formal communications with the congregation, members of the general public, and government officials, as necessary.

Church Treasurer

The Church Treasurer has the ultimate responsibility for safe guarding the Church accounts, ensuring that the financial obligations are met in accordance with sound accounting practices, and in compliance with the law. The Treasurer is responsible for providing input into the Strategic Plan, establishing annual budgets, and providing monthly updates to the Board on revenues and expenditures against plan. Additionally, the Treasurer is responsible for establishing key policies and procedures as required, and working with the Accounting office to ensure timely payments are made to employees and vendors.

Director of Operations

The Director of Operations has the overall responsibility for identifying, coordinating and executing the operational activities associated with the church properties, including equipment maintenance, grounds work, repairs, IT, and health and safety measures. The Director chairs the Maintenance and Operations Committee, and is responsible for negotiating and tracking the performance of all contracts and agreements associated with the operations of the facilities. Additionally, the Director is responsible for identifying specific capital or maintenance project needs on an annual basis, and in collaboration with the Treasurer, tracking those projects against the approved budget(s).

Director of Fundraising

The Director of Fundraising is responsible for establishing the strategic roadmap required to fund the New Church project and its associated capital needs. The Director leads the Fundraising Committee in putting this plan into action, identifying sources (including government grants), outreach methodologies, upfront cost requirements, and planning and executing the necessary campaigns to achieve the agreed targets. The Director, in coordination with the Board members, is responsible for developing the communication plans around these campaigns, while tracking and reporting on progress against target.

Director of Ministries, Youth Engagement & Community Outreach

In collaboration with the Sunday School and Youth ministries, the Director of Ministries, Youth Engagement and Community Outreach is responsible for identifying the long term needs of the ministry and ensuring that the necessary resources are adequately identified and budgeted for to meet those needs. The Director is also responsible for identifying programs for developing the youth as future leaders of the church, and actively engaging them through various projects and volunteering opportunities within the church and the community. Furthermore, the Director, in collaboration with the Director of Public Relations, is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for the church to play an active role within the Milton community.
